University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse alumnus Efosa Guobadia will begin an 8+ month trip around the world to 20 different countries at the end of November. Guobadia, who earned a degree in kinesiology as he competed for the Minutemen from 2004-07, will promote health and wellness as well as build international relationships during a trip that will take him through Latin America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

UMass women's basketball secures first victory of the season against Maine
The New England Lacrosse Journal recently named former UMass men's lacrosse head coach Dick Garber as the greatest coach to patrol the sidelines in New England. Garber guided the Minutemen for 36 seasons and became the first collegiate coach to reach 300 career wins in the process. Lacrosse Magazine's Corey McLaughlin took a look at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Conference heading into the 2015 season, which will be the first for Fairfield as a member of the league.

UMass field hockey begins the 2014 Atlantic 10 Tournament as the No. 1 seed for competition when the Minutewomen face No. 4 Lock Haven on Friday afternoon. Massachusetts is on the hunt for its third consecutive Atlantic 10 title. The University of Massachusetts rowing program capped its fall competitive slate with an appearance at the Green Monster Invitational in Hanover, New Hampshire. UMass men's lacrosse alumnus Kyle Smith (2010-13) joined the coaching staff at Merrimack, as announced by the college on Monday. Smith poured in 125 points via 79 goals and 46 assists over four seasons with the Minutemen and currently plays for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse. UMass field hockey freshman Sarah Hawkshaw scored twice during the team's final regular season game to lead the Minutewomen to a 5-1 victory over Saint Louis. The win secured UMass the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament while the two-goal game from Hawkshaw was the first such effort in the freshman's collegiate career. Allen, who was originally called up to play in the NHL with the Rangers last season, made his NHL debut on Dec. 29, 2013, against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Allen becomes the fifth former Minuteman active in the NHL this season, joining Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles), Justin Braun (San Jose), Matt Irwin (San Jose) and Kostka.
Sunday marks Senior Day for UMass field hockey! The Minutewomen host Saint Louis at Garber Field at 1 p.m. A short ceremony featuring the three seniors on the team, Lauren Allymohamed, Mariajose Rodriguez and Renee Suter will be held prior to the start of the game.
