In the Springfield Republican, Ron Chimelis has a great story in Sunday's paper about UMass' revamped offensive line. Chimelis leads the story with the man taking over Vladimir Ducasse's No. 72 -- Nick Speller. The story also focuses on Speller's fellow transfers Greg Niland and Anthony Dima.
In his latest update on UMass Football, Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette focuses in on the Minutemen's No. 5 in the backfield -- Jamar Smith. The last two tailbacks to wear No. 5 are All-Americans Steve Baylark and Marcel Shipp, who combined for 11,582 career yards. "All the tools are there. That's why he got the No. 5," UMass coach Kevin Morris said. "He's a guy that we think can make an impact."
Vautour also mentions the addition to Nick Speller and the brother combinations on the UMass roster.
The 2010 UMass Football Roster has been updated with five newcomers for training camp. The new Minutemen include redshirt sophomore transfer Nick Speller, who comes to UMass from Syracuse, who will compete for time on the offensive line. Sophomore James Lizotte comes to UMass from Holy Cross, but will have to sit out as a transfer from one FCS school to another. Three freshman are also in camp: offensive linemen Mike Kahale and Jeff Skoog along with linebacker Ryan Delaire.
