Dan Malone of the Springfield Republican has a look at the seven Minutemen named to the MAC All-Academic Team. Highlighting the group was Matt Sparks who is a two-time honoree. To earn the honor, players needed a 3.20 cumulative GPA while being a starter or important reserve.
The football team fell 41-21 last Friday against Buffalo in the season finale for the Minutemen. Despite a 3-9 record, the Minutemen won three of their last six games to end the year. The last two losses of the season came without starting quarterback Blake Frohnapfel who was in the midst of producing one of the best seasons in program history. Despite the tough way to end the year, many media members feel the upcoming season will be big for UMass.

After playing on Wednesday night, the UMass football team will have an abbreviated week as it preps for Akron on Tuesday night (7 PM, ESPN3). As the Minutemen continue to evaluate Blake Frohnapfel's health going into the game, Austin Whipple has taken the first-team reps during practice the last three days.
