This past summer, seven former UMass baseball players were in action in the minor leagues, including Nick Serino and Bryan Leigh, who both spent their first summers in pro ball.
Serino and Leigh joined Mitchell Clegg, Matt Torra, Ron Villone, Chad Paronto, and Nick Gorneault as former Minutemen getting paid to play the national past time.

UMass Hall of Famer Ron Villone pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Syracuse Chiefs vs. the Pawtucket Red Sox and fellow alum Chad Paronto. The PawSox won the game though, 8-2 on Thursday. Villone has 5.97 ERA for Syracuse.
Ron Villone was on the mound in three straight games. He threw a scoreless inning in a 5-3 loss to the Sranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees on Saturday, but gave up runs in back-to-back games against the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday and Monday.
