Being able to count on Jordan Laguerre on the court for UMass basketball next season should give fellow alumni like me a chance to breath a sigh of relief. We've known for some time that the talented sic-foot-two point guard from New Hampshire was coming to UMass, though Jordan makes that clear enough in a recently released highlight video. Introducing himself by saying he's heading to my alma mater at UMass Amherst this fall, the video offers a rare chance to see just what this kid can do.
Those who haven't already checked out a video of Laguerre and his High School teammates in a dunk session should find it well worth a look. Considering his height, Laguerre has a refreshing level of confidence at the rim, and he makes some of those dunks look completely natural.

The New Hampton School took the championship at this weekend's Mercer Invitational Tournament hosted by the Hill School, defeating the Berkshire School, the host Hill, and then the Landon School in the final. Laguerre took MVP honors, averaging just under 20 points per game on the weekend in 32-minute games played without a shot clock.
The tournament is just the latest in what has been a very strong start to the season for the UMass bound guard. Laguerre made an early commitment to UMass just prior to the beginning of this summer's live period and so his performances have tended to fly a little under the radar, but this is a guy who consistently outplays high-major prospects at virtually every stop and has the tools to be an impact addition in the Atlantic 10.
