Scouting Dayton Women's Basketball
Dayton holds a 21-5 record and 12-2 mark in A-10 games entering competition against UMass after the Flyers rebounded from a slow start to win 18 of the last 20. The two losses in that frame came against league-leader George Washington.
Jim Jabir, who is in his 12th season at Dayton and 28th as a collegiate head coach overall, has turned Dayton women's basketball into a mid-major powerhouse during the last eight seasons. The squad went a combined 44-72 in his first four years with the program from 2003-04 through 2006-07, a .379 win percentage. Since then, the Flyers are 216-66 overall (.766 win percentage) with at least 20 victories in each season, five NCAA Tournament appearances and two berths into the WNIT.
Andrea Hoover leads the squad in scoring for the third consecutive season and is tied with Kim Pierre-Louis for second in the A-10 with 18.2 points per game. Ally Malott provides 15.6 points per game while Amber Deane chips in 9.8 more as the Flyers score 75.7 on average against only 63.7 points given up. The squad's +12.1 scoring margin is the second-best in the Atlantic 10. Dayton also holds a sizable advantage on the boards, spearheaded by Malott (7.8 rebounds per game) and Hoover (7.0). Overall, Jabir's program wins the rebounding battle, 43.2-to-37.2 on average, with more assists, 381-310; steals, 178-153 and blocks, 124-68.
