Scouting Richmond Women's Basketball
Richmond women's basketball enters the Atlantic 10 Tournament as a No. 5 seed with a 17-12 overall record. The squad earned a bye through the first round and Thursday's contest marks the first for the Spiders during the championship.
Janelle Hubbard's 14.1 points guides the offense as one of three Spiders scoring in double-figures. Lauren Tolson adds 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists over a team-high 31.9 minutes played per game. Genevieve Okoro follows with 11.4 points and a Spiders-best 8.1 rebounds.
Michael Shafer is in his 10th season as the head coach at Richmond after an 11-year stint as an assistant at the University of Georgia, during which the Bulldogs reached the NCAA Tournament in each season. Shafer is 174-139 overall with the Spiders and led the team to five WNIT appearances from the 2008-09 season through 2012-13.
