The University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program hosts its 2014 Senior Night against No. 12 nationally ranked Hofstra on Saturday, April 19 at 7 p.m. The five-man senior class of Joe Calvello, James Fahey, Reed Goodhue, Connor Mooney and Matt Whippen will be recognized on Garber Field prior to the contest. Daily Collegian reporter Peter Cappiello focused a recent feature story on the emergence of UMass men's lacrosse redshirt-junior midfielder
Ryan Izzo as a leader on the Minutemen. Izzo suffered an ACL injury as a freshman in 2011 but has recovered from the setback to become an all-conference and all-region standout.
"Ryan Izzo ran a toss sweep from the 23-yard line to the short side of the field against Weymouth on Thanksgiving Day, 2009. He cut back across the gridiron with five minutes to play, then broke a few tackles up the middle, bound for the right pylon. Touchdown, 77 yards. It was the final play of his high school football career.
A senior fullback at Walpole High School, Izzo set the Massachusetts career points record at 722, and his 6,316 rushing yards were good for No. 2 in the record books. But he never received a Division I football offer. Izzo instead audibled to lacrosse, a sport he's played since fourth grade. His first choice? The University of Massachusetts...

The UMass men's lacrosse team traveled to Johns Hopkins for some fall ball action this past weekend, facing the host-Blue Jays and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Inside Lacrosse photographer Zach Babo was one the scene and has some great photos of the Minutemen in action against both teams.
