Tennis Opens Atlantic 10 Conference Play At George Washington

The Minutewomen compete against the Revolutionaries on Wednesday, March 19 at 11 a.m.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis heads to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, March 19, for its first Atlantic 10 Conference match of the year against George Washington. The match begins at 11 a.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC).
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen fell in a close 4-3 match to Brown in their only match last weekend.
UMass claimed the doubles point with wins on court No. 1 and No. 2. Partners Marianan Campino and Belle Jonglertrakul defeated Brown, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles, with the duo of Amelia Tye and Ella Faessler downing the Bears' 6-2 at No. 2.
Campino collected the first point in singles competition for the Minutewomen with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Brown at court No. 1, to make it a 2-0 match. Brown tied up the match at 2-2 with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Tye put UMass back on top, 3-2, after winning 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(4) on court No. 4. The Bears brought the match back to a 3-3 tie defeating Martina Pavissich, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
The Bears clinched the match at court No. 5 with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Trinity Calinescu.
Scouting George Washington
The George Washington Revolutionaries hold a 6-5 overall record on the season and a 2-1 A-10 record. At home, the Revolutionaries are 2-3 overall. George Washington won its most recent match, 4-3, over Augustana on Monday, March 10.
In conference play, George Washington picked up wins over George Mason (7-0) and Saint Joseph's (5-2), while falling to Fordham (4-0).
Weekly Honors
Faessler collected the first Atlantic 10 weekly award of the year for the Minutewomen on February 4. The junior tabbed the A-10 Player of the Week accolade, which marked the first weekly honor of her career. On the week, Faessler went 2-0 in singles competition and 1-0 in doubles play.
