Tennis Completes 7-0 Sweep Over Franklin Pierce For Seventh Straight Victory

The Minutewomen dominate the Ravens in lone non-conference match of the week.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis marked its seventh straight victory with a 7-0 sweep over non-conference opponent Franklin Pierce on Thursday afternoon at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
The Minutewomen improved to 14-3 on the season, while the Ravens moved to 3-10 overall.
Massachusetts rolled past Franklin Pierce in doubles play, picking up wins at all three courts. Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich pulled off a 6-0 win over Sara Gonzalez and Ana Muñoz of FPU at court No. 3, followed by a 6-2 triumph by duo Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye over Franklin Pierce's Ines Gabarro and Candela Tortosa at the No. 2 spot.
The pair of Ella Faessler and Renata Farima sealed the deal after defeating Ainhoa Ordonez and Gabriela Yamate of the Ravens, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles.
UMass continued to dominate through singles action, claiming all six points. Pavissich took over the No. 1 slot and downed Gabarro of Franklin Pierce, 6-0, 6-1, before Farima took down Ordonez of the Ravens, 6-2, 6-0, at court No. 3. De Oliveira followed with a 6-2, 6-3, win at No. 4 singles over Franklin Pierce's Yamate, as Fiona Ao defeated Gonzalez of Franklin Pierce, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.
Duru Baycan competed at No. 5 singles in her collegiate debut, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at court No. 5 against the Ravens' Tortosa, while Owethu Makhanya claimed a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Muñoz of FPU.
After a week-long break, the Minutewomen return to MACtion with back-to-back road matches. UMass visits Kalamazoo, Michigan, to take on Western Michigan on Friday, April 10 at 12 p.m., before heading to Toledo, Ohio on Sunday, April 12 for a 12 p.m. match against Toledo.
