Massachusetts Tennis Named MAC Regular Season Champions

The Minutewomen defeated Buffalo 6-1 to secure its first league regular-season title.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis earned its first Mid-American Conference regular season title after defeating Buffalo, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Minutewomen concluded the regular season with a 16-4 overall record and a 7-1 record in the MAC, while the Bulls moved to 19-6 overall and 6-2 in the league.
Massachusetts grabbed the doubles point, earning wins at courts No. 3 and No. 1. Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich took down Buffalo's Sarah Hartel and Julia Laspro, 6-3, at No. 3, but the Bulls tied up the doubles match. At No. 2 doubles, Buffalo's Blanca Berges and Liv Roestel won 6-4 over Amelia Tye and Amanda de Oliveira.
Ella Faessler and Renata Farima clinched the double point for the Minutewomen coming away with a 7-6(3) triumph at court No. 1.
UMass carried its momentum into singles action, picking up five of six points. Faessler finished at court No. 1 with a quick 6-2, 6-1 victory over Andresen of Buffalo, followed by Pavissich defeating Buffalo's Glowacka, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3. Tye clinched the triumph for Massachusetts after downing Laspro of Buffalo, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.
Buffalo earned a point at No. 4 singles, as the Bulls' Hartel won 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 over Fiona Ao, but Farima kept the Minutewomen on track with a three-set victory of 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 at court No. 5 over Roestel of Buffalo.
Duru Baycan also earned a point at No. 6 singles after taking down Buffalo's Berges, 6-2, 6-3.
Massachusetts prepares for the Semifinals of the MAC Championships on Saturday, April 25. The seeding and tournament bracket to determine time and opponent will be set at a later time.
