Massachusetts Tennis Wins Fifth Straight, 4-3, At Ball State

The Minutewomen earned their fourth consecutive MAC triumph, as head coach Juancarlos Nunez collects 100th career win.
MUNCIE, Ind. – Four consecutive wins in singles play keyed the University of Massachusetts tennis team to its fifth straight victory on Sunday morning, 4-3, at Ball State. It also marked UMass' fourth straight Mid-American Conference triumph.
Additionally, the win allowed head coach Juancarlos Nunez to earn his 100th career win, including 100 at Massachusetts.
The Minutewomen improved to 12-3 on the season and 4-0 in MAC play, while the Cardinals moved to 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Ball State picked up the doubles point with wins at courts No. 3 and No. 1. At No. 3, Sydney Hrehor and Asia Ting Fontana of Ball State defeated Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich, 6-1. Ball State's Sarah Shahbaz and Isabel Tanjuatco took down Ella Faessler and Renata Farima, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles to grab the point.
Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye were tied, 6-6, at the No. 2 slot with Gabrielle Barrera and Alana Bristow of Ball State when doubles competition came to an end.
Behind, 1-0, the Minutewomen rallied for four consecutive singles points. Tye defeated the Cardinals' Priyanka Rana, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2, before Pavissich downed Tanjuatco of Ball State, 6-1, 7-6(2) at the No. 3 position. Faessler made it a 3-1 match after winning, 6-2, 7-6(3) over Ball State's Bristow at the No. 1 spot. Farima clinched the match point at court No. 5 with a 7-5, 7-6(6) victory over Jemima Williams-Phillips of Ball State.
Ball State recorded two singles points in the final two matches at No. 6 and No. 4, but UMass held the 4-3 triumph.
The Minutewomen host Northern Illinois on Sunday, March 29, for Senior Day. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start.
