Massachusetts Tennis Clinches Spot In MAC Championships With 6-1 Triumph Over Western Michigan

The Minutewomen earned their eighth straight victory, and sixth consecutive MAC win.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – University of Massachusetts tennis clinched one of four spots in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships, set for April 25-26, in Oxford, Ohio, after securing its eighth straight victory with a 6-1 triumph over Western Michigan, on Friday afternoon at West Hills Athletic Club.
Additionally, Massachusetts earned its sixth consecutive MAC win.
The Minutewomen improved to 15-3 on the season and 6-0 in MAC play, while the Broncos moved to 12-7 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Massachusetts secured the doubles point with wins at courts No. 1 and No. 2. Ella Faessler and Renata Farima jumped out to a quick 6-1 victory over Frida Weijerman and Marielou Baudouin of Western Michigan at No. 1 doubles. The Broncos tied it up as Julia Frazir and Polina Khotko defeated Martina Pavissich and Madara Markevica, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot.
Coming back from a 4-1 deficit, Amelia Tye and Amanda de Oliveira knotted up their match at 5-5 at court No. 2. The duo fought back to a 7-6(6) triumph over Western Michigan's Audrey Smitek and Lola Glantz to clinch the doubles point for the Minutewomen.
UMass continued to dominate through singles action, taking five of the six points. Farima finished first with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Khotko of Western Michigan at the No. 5 position, followed by Faessler's 6-3, 6-1, triumph over Glantz of the Broncos at court No. 1. Markevica took down Baudoin, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 6 slot, before Tye downed Weijerman at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Western Michigan's Smitek picked up the lone point for the Broncos after winning, 6-4, 6-4, at court No. 3 over Pavissich, but Fiona Ao defeated Sienna Osbourne of Western Michigan in three sets at No. 4 singles. Ao won, 3-6, 7-5, 10-2.
Massachusetts concludes its time on the road with a conference match up at Toledo on Sunday, April 12, at 12 p.m., in Toledo, Ohio.
