Tennis Downs Northern Illinois, 6-1, For Sixth Straight Victory On Senior Day

The Minutewomen secured their fifth consecutive MAC win.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis won six straight singles matches to down Northern Illinois University, 6-1, to pick up its sixth straight win on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The victory also marks the fifth consecutive Mid-American Conference triumph for Massachusetts.
The Minutewomen improved to 13-3 on the season and 5-0 in MAC play, while the Huskies moved to 15-7 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Northern Illinois grabbed the doubles point with wins at courts No. 2 and No. 3. After Ella Faessler and Renata Farima won, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles, Isabella Righi and Lucia Yecora of NIU defeated Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye, 6-3, at No. 2. The Huskies clinched the point as Irmak Budak and Jenna Horne downed Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich at the No. 3 spot.
Behind, 1-0, the Minutewomen rallied for six consecutive singles points. Tye defeated the Huskies' Theordora Kousiou, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, before Fiona Ao took down Nataly Ninova of Northern Illinois, 6-2, 7-5, at court No. 4. Pavissich won in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 position over NIU's Yecora, followed by Faessler's three-set victory over Burdak at the No. 1 slot, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Markevica won 6-4, 6-0 over Rebecca Miralles of NIU at No. 6 singles, while Farima solidified the team's win with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Horne at No. 5.
Massachusetts welcomes non-conference opponent Franklin Pierce on Thursday, April 2, at 1 p.m. in Amherst.
