Tennis Garners Three ITA New England Region Awards

McColgan headlines with ITA Assistant Coach of the Year honor; Faessler earns Senior Player of the Year and Tye selected as Most Improved Player.
AMHERST, Mass. – After helping lead the University of Massachusetts tennis program to a Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship, Hannah McColgan was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the ITA New England Region Assistant Coach of the Year. In addition to McColgan, Ella Faessler was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year, while Amelia Tye received the ITA Most Improved Player honor.
It marks the third consecutive season a member of the program has been awarded the ITA Senior Player of the Year and the ITA Most Improved Player accolades.
McColgan becomes the first assistant coach to garner the accolade twice in program history, after earning the award in the 2024 season. Faessler becomes the third Minutewomen in program history to collect the ITA Senior Player of the Year honor, as Mariana Campino tabbed the award in 2025 and Danielle Hack held the honor in 2024. Tye is also the third Minutewomen in program history to receive the ITA Most Improved Player honor, with Campino winning the award in 2025 and Belle Jonglertrakul earning the honor in 2024.
McColgan completed her third season at UMass, with the 2026 campaign seeing the Minutewomen be named the MAC Regular Season Champions. The team was 16-5 overall with a 7-1 mark in the league play. After winning the regular season title, Massachusetts earned the No. 1 seed heading in the MAC Championships, clinching the No.1-seed for only the second time in program history, doing so in the 200-01 season.
McColgan saw a MAC Player of the Year in Faessler, at the conclusion of the season. The team ranked sixth in the final ITA New England Regional Rankings.
Faessler capped the year with a 13-5 singles record, including a 7-1 MAC record, primarily at the No. 1 position. The Hilton Head, South Carolina, native went 13-5 in doubles action with partner Renata Farima at court No. 1, as the dup totaled a 6-2 record in league competition. Faessler tabbed MAC Player of the Year and was named to the All-MAC First Team.
Tye finished the season with an 11-7 overall singles record, while going 7-1 in the MAC, primarily at No. 2 singles. With partner Amanda de Oliveira, she was 8-7 in doubles play overall. The London, England, native, landed on the All-MAC Second Team.
