#1 Tennis Falls To #4 Miami (OH) In MAC Semifinals, 4-3

The deciding point came down to a three-set singles match at court No. 1.
OXFORD, Ohio – The No. 1 University of Massachusetts tennis team fell to No. 4 Miami (OH), 4-3, in the Mid-American Conference Semifinals on Saturday morning at the Miami Tennis Courts.
The Minutewomen capped season with a 16-5 overall record and a 7-1 record in the MAC.
Massachusetts secured the doubles point to go up 1-0. After Miami's Evelyn Risner and Avery Voss defeated Amelia Tye and Fiona Ao, 6-2, at court No. 2, Martina Pavissich and Madara Markevica downed Nina Marcela Chavez Vicente and Lovisa Valentinsson, 7-6(2) at No. 3 doubles.
Ella Faessler and Renata Farima clinched the doubles point for the Minutewomen at the No. 1 position, defeating the RedHawks' Maria Luisa Oliveira and Allie Faulkner, 7-5.
The two teams kept singles play close, as it came down to court No. 1 in a three-set match. Miami's Faulkner tied the match up at 1-1 after taking down Pavissich, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, but Duru Baycan put the Minutewomen back on top, 2-1, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot over Chavez Vicente of Miami.
The match was knotted up once again at 2-2, as the RedHawks' Voss topped Ao, 7-5, 6-3, at court No. 3. Markevica put UMass ahead, 3-2, defeating Maria Komar, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 6 singles. Miami (OH) grabbed another point to make it a 3-3 match, as Risner of the RedHawks won in three sets over Farima at No. 4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
With the match tied up, court No. 1 became the deciding factor heading into a third set. Oliveira of Miami was able to clinch the match point for the RedHawks after winning, 7-6(3), (5)6-7, 6-3.
