Massachusetts Tennis Prepares For Georgetown, Army

The Minutewomen compete against the Hoyas on Saturday, Feb. 10, before facing the Black Knights on Sunday, Feb. 11, at West Point, New York.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis prepares for two matches on the weekend, as the team faces off against Georgetown for a neutral site match on Saturday, February 10, before taking on host Army on Sunday, February 11 at Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, New York. The Minutewomen take on the Hoyas at 8 a.m. on Saturday and compete against the Black Knights at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Last Time Out
Massachusetts defeated Quinnipiac, 5-2, in its lone match last Saturday, to improve to 2-1 on the season.  
 
UMass notched the doubles point with wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul kicked off the action with a 6-2 victory on court No. 1, over Quinnipiac's Jordan Bradley and Nikole Lisovyy. The team remains undefeated this season (3-0). At No. 2 doubles, Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye pulled out a 7-5 advantage against Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina of the Bobcats to clinch the doubles point. On court No. 3, Renata Farima and Mariana Campino lost a narrow 7-5 match to Quinnipiac's Caitlin Flower and Caroline Schulson. 
 
In singles play, Hack earned the first singles point on court No. 1, defeating Shankar of Quinnipiac, 6-2, 6-4. At third singles, Jonglertrakul captured a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Bobcats' Schulson. Massachusetts' momentum continued when Faessler completed a come-from-behind victory over Quinnipiac's Sekerina, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 2. After another three-set battle, the Bobcats' Flower pulled out a tight 6-7 (7) 6-3, 6-7 (5) win against Tye for the team's first point on the afternoon. On court No. 5, Krasakova furthered UMass' lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Bradley of Quinnipiac on court No. 5. Quinnipiac was able to nab another point in a consecutive three-set thriller at No. 6 singles, but Massachusetts' early dominance proved too strong.
 
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas are 2-4 overall heading into Saturday's match up, last falling 5-2 to William & Mary last Sunday on the road. Georgetown's two wins came against Richmond (5-2) and at Youngstown State (4-1) earlier in the season. 
 
Georgetown will compete against Army on Friday, February 9, prior to its match against UMass on Saturday.
 
Scouting Army
The Black Knights hold a 6-2 overall record on the season as they head into the weekend. After falling to Syracuse (7-0) and Dartmouth (7-0) to start the season, Army has been on a six-match win streak, blanking Binghamton, Sacred heart, Rider, Stony Brook and St. Bonaventure all by a score of 4-0, and winning 4-1 over UConn.
 
Army will face Georgetown on Friday, February 9, and Mercer on Saturday, February 10, before taking on the Minutewomen on Sunday.
 
Next Up
The Minutewomen travel to Syracuse, New York, for one match against Syracuse on Sunday, February 18. The match begins at 11 a.m., the Drumlins Country Club.
