Tennis Downs Sacred Heart, 5-2, For Third Straight Victory

The Minutewomen record their 13th consecutive home win, improve to 6-2 on the year.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis earned its third straight win, taking down Sacred Heart University, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center. It also marks UMass' 13th consecutive home victory, dating back to February 12 of last season.
The Minutewomen improved to 6-2 on the year, while the Pioneers dropped to 7-3 on the season.
UMass picked up the doubles point with wins on courts No. 2 and No. 1, respectively. With Sacred Heart winning a point at No. 3 doubles by default, Danielle Hack and Anna Napadiy got off to a quick start to claim a 6-2 triumph over Aina Garriga and Ciara O'Toole of SHU. Duo Melisa Senli and Mariya Krasakova notched the point for UMass, after defeating Sacred Heart's Katsiaryna Starastsenka and Flavia Rambaldi.
Massachusetts kept the momentum going into singles play, as Hack grabbed a point at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over SHU's Olivia Kharkover. Krasakova followed as she downed Garriga of SHU, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The Minutewomen took a 4-2 lead, as Napadiy earned a point of her own with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court No. 4 over O'Toole of SHU.
After an intense first set battle on court No. 1, Senli took the set, 8-6, before cruising to a 6-1 triumph to secure the final point for the Minutewomen.
UMass heads to Providence, Rhode Island, on Sunday, March 12, to take on No. 42 ranked Brown. The match is slated for 11 a.m. at Pizzitola Sports Center.
