Krasakova picked up the Minutewomen’s lone point on the day.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Massachusetts tennis fell 6-1 to No. 42 Brown University at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday morning. UMass moves to 6-3 on the year, while Brown improved to 10-3 overall.
Brown notched the double point, quickly, as the Bears had the edge with a win at court No. 3 by default, before winning at No. 2 and No. 1. Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander of Brown grabbed a 6-1 victory over partners Danielle Hack and Anna Napadiy at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 63-ranked doubles team of Addison Ahlstrom and Britany Lau of Brown took down Melisa Senli and Mariya Krasakova, 6-3, on court No. 1.
The Bears headed into singles with a 3-0 lead, as they picked up default wins at No. 5 and No. 6. At court No. 4, Brown's Olivia Mariotti defeated Napadiy 6-2 in the first set, before Napadiy retired in the second set. Krasakova earned a 6-2, 6-2, win for the Minutewomen over Nora Lee of Brown at No. 3, as Alexandra Benedetto of Brown downed Hack 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Brown's Gabriella Soliman secured the sixth point for the Bears with a 6-3, 7-6(7) win over Senli at court No. 2.
UMass takes a trip to Washington, D.C., for two matches on Friday, March 17 and Saturday. March 18. Massachusetts takes on Georgetown on Friday at 12 p.m., before beginning Atlantic 10 Conference play against George Washington on Saturday at 12 p.m.
