Massachusetts Tennis Set For Road Test At Seton Hall, Rutgers

The Minutewomen matchup with the Pirates on Friday, Feb. 17, before taking on the Scarlet Knights on Saturday, Feb. 18.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis team hits the road for two nonconference matches, first traveling to South Orange, New Jersey, to take on Seton Hall at 6:45 p.m., on Friday, February 17 at the Strand Tennis Center, before facing Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey, on Saturday, February 18 at 5 p.m. at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.  
 
Last Time Out
Massachusetts remained perfect at home, extending its streak to 10-matches, dating back to February 12, 2022, after picking up 6-1 victories over both Siena and Fairfield at Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
 
Against Siena, the Minutewomen secured the doubles points, sweeping at all three courts, to tie the match 1-1, with a default sixth singles point taken by the Saints. In singles competition, Melisa Senli grabbed the first point at court No. 1, before Mariya Krasakova notched one of her own at No. 3 singles. Danielle Hack, Thamonpan Jonglertrakul and Anna Napadiy all followed at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, to seal the triumph.
 
Starting the match vs. Fairfield down 1-0, due to a default sixth singles point, the Minutewomen brought the match to a 1-1 draw with another three court doubles sweep. UMass kept the momentum going into singles play, as Krasakova earned the first point at court No. 3, followed by Jonglertrakul at court No. 4. Hack grabbed a point at No. 2, before Senli notched one at No. 1. Napadiy finished on court No. 5 with a win of her own to bring the match to its final score.
 
Scouting Seton Hall
The Pirates head into Friday's match with a 2-3 overall record and are coming off a 6-1 loss to Rutgers on the road last Friday morning. Seton Hall's two wins came over Binghamton (7-0) and Monmouth (6-1) earlier in the season.
 
Since the 1999 spring season, the Minutewomen and Pirates have met five times with Seton Hall leading the series, 3-2. UMass won against Seton Hall during the 2002 season, where they captured a 4-3 victory on the day. The last meeting between the two teams occurred last year on Feb. 26, with the Minutewomen downing the Pirates, 7-0, on the day.
 
Scouting Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 7-0 sweep over Fairleigh Dickinson last Sunday and have an overall record of 7-1. Rutgers opened its season with four straight victories over Bucknell, Binghamton, Drexel and Army, before falling for the first and only time this season to Yale in a close 4-3 contest. The Scarlet Knights also picked up triumphs over Seton Hall and LIU.
 
WEEKLY ACCOLADES
After posting a 4-0 weekend, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, Senli was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, February 7. The freshman is 2-1 in singles play, so far, this season, and 3-0 in doubles competition, partnering with Krasakova. The award marked a first of Senli's career.
