Tennis Captures Tight 4-3 Win Over Seton Hall

Napadiy secured the match point for the Minutewomen in three sets at No. 4 singles.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – University of Massachusetts tennis team extended its win streak to three with a thrilling 4-3 triumph at Seton Hall at the Strand Tennis Center on Friday night. Graduate student Anna Napadiy clinched the UMass victory with a three-set win at No. 4 singles.
The Minutewomen notched the doubles point with wins at courts No. 2 and No. 1, respectively. Danielle Hack and Napadiy defeated Arina Gumerova and Hili Kronzon of Seton Hall, 6-1, before Melisa Senli and Mariya Krasakova captured a 6-3 win at the top spot to take down Seton Hall's Aina Plana Ventosa and Arabella Moen.
In singles competition, the Pirates owned a brief 2-1 lead with default points at courts No. 5 and No. 6, but Senli knotted up the match, extending her success with a swift 6-2, 6-2 win over Plana Ventosa of Seton Hall at the No. 2 spot. Hack secured the next point for UMass, winning 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles over Seton Hall's Gumerova, to reclaim a 3-2 lead. Olivia Kempinski of Seton Hall defeated Krasakova after a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 battle at court No. 3, to bring the match to a 3-3 draw. Massachusetts' fate was in the hands of Napadiy, who pulled off a comeback in a three-setter at No. 4 singles, clinching the match point for the Minutewomen with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Hiba El Khalifi of Seton Hall.
UMass returns to the courts on Saturday, February 18, to face Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J>, at 5 p.m. at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
