Harvard, Siena Up Next For Massachusetts Tennis

The Minutewomen travel to Harvard on Saturday, March 26, for a 1 p.m. match, before hosting Siena on Sunday, March 27, at 1 p.m.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis team heads to Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Saturday, March 26, to take on in-state rival Harvard at the Murr Center Indoor Courts, before welcoming Siena to the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday, March 27. Both matches are slated for a 1 p.m., start.
The Minutewomen will look to pick up its first win in program history against Harvard.
LAST TIME OUT
Massachusetts improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in league play, as the Minutewomen grabbed a pair of Atlantic 10 victories, taking down Dayton, 6-1, last Friday, and Davidson, 4-3, last Saturday.
Against Dayton, UMass collected the doubles point, after Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul earned a 6-1 win at No. 1, before duo Mariya Krasakova and Vitoria Okuyama won, 6-2, at No. 2. In singles play, Dylan Cannon, Hack, Krasakova, Renata Farima and Okuyama picked up triumphs at courts No. 6, 2, 4, 1 and 5, respectively.
On Saturday versus Davidson, the Minutewomen fell behind 3-1 after the Wildcats picked up the doubles point and grabbed two singles wins. Okuyama notched the first point for UMass, before Massachusetts began its comeback, as Hack, Anna Napadiy and Krasakova recorded victories at No. 3, 2 and 5.
SCOUTING HARVARD
The Crimson are 7-7 overall heading into Saturday's match up and are coming off a 4-2 triumph over No. 69 BYU in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, March 19.
UMass and Harvard will meet for the ninth time in program history, with the Crimson holding an 8-0 record in the all-time series. The two teams first met during the 1979-80 season in Cambridge. Harvard went on to win 5-4 on the day. The last meeting occurred on Feb. 2, 2020 at Harvard, where the Crimson won 4-0.
SCOUTING SIENA
The Saints are 6-9 overall entering Sunday's match and are coming off a 5-2 victory on the road over Seton Hall last Sunday.
UMass and Siena are meeting for the fifth time since meeting on March 8, 2008, in Amherst. The Minutewomen hold the advantage in the all-time series, with a 4-0 record. In the first meeting, Massachusetts won, 7-0, on the day. The two programs last met on March 23, 2019, as the Minutewomen defeated Siena, 6-1.
FOUR AND COUNTING
Farima has garnered the A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade four times in her career. The freshman went 4-0, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, to receive the honor on February 8, before collecting the award again on February 15, after posting a 2-0 record in singles play. The Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, tabbed the honor on March 1, after going 4-0 overall on the weekend in the Minutewomen's sweeps of both Seton Hall and Holy Cross.
Farima received the honor on March 15, after aiding the Minutewomen to a 4-1 victory at Bryant after posting a 2-0 record, earning a win in both singles and doubles at the No. 1 spot. In doubles her and Vitoria Okuyama defeated their Bryant opponents, 6-2, before she grabbed a point, winning 6-0, 6-4. The freshman is 8-1 in singles play, so far, this season, and 7-1 also in doubles competition, going 4-1 with partner Anna Napadiy, 2-0 with Cannon and 1-0 with Okuyama.
