Massachusetts Softball Victorious Against North Dakota, Charleston Southern

Sarah Keagy and Grace Cadden led the Minutewomen effort with three runs apiece in Saturday's contests.
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The University of Massachusetts softball team continued action in the CSU Buc Up Tournament on Saturday, seeing North Dakota for the first time in history and Charleston Southern following Friday night's 3-2 defeat. The Minutewomen captured their first win of the season against North Dakota with a 5 to 1 victory, while splitting the weekend series against Charleston Southern with a 6 to 1 triumph.
Game One - UMass 5, North Dakota 3
The Hawks' Katie Joten scored the first run of the game, making it home on a fielding error at the top of the first inning. The Minutewomen answered the call in the third, with Sarah Keagy hitting a two run single allowing Emily Whelan and Payge Suggs to reach home and take the lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Minutewomen extended their lead with three additional runs. Grace Cadden hit an RBI triple to allow Keagy to plate a run of her own. Shortly thereafter, Abby Packard hit an RBI triple to send Cadden home. Olivia Packard then allowed her sister A. Packard to reach home on a single resulting in a fielding error.
The Hawks got two back in the top of the sixth when Madi Moore scored off Cassie Casta's RBI double to left center. Casta reached home herself off a Baylee Howle single to second.
Julianne Bolton pitched the game for the Minutewomen, recording eleven strikeouts and allowing two runs in 7.0 innings of work.
Game Two - UMass 6, Charleston Southern 1
The Buccaneers got on the board in the first inning when Ashley Meckley reached home on a fielding error.
In the second inning, A. Packard reached first on a sacrificial bunt and advanced to second on a throwing error, allowing Cadden to reach third and Keagy to plate the first run of the game for the Minutewomen. Cadden then reached home herself off Angie Rama's fly ball to left field for the Minutewomen lead. O. Packard grounded out to second base to once again allow her sister A. Packard to plate another run on the day and extend the lead.
The score remained the same until the sixth inning, when Angie Rama's sacrifice fly brought Keagy home and O. Packard's RBI single to center field let Cadden score another on the day.
Jessie DiPasquale recorded five strikeouts and allowed one earned run in 7.0 innings of work in the victory.

UMass will see action in one more contest in the CSU Buc Up Tournament against North Dakota tomorrow morning, Sunday, Feb. 19, with first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m. at the CSU Softball Complex.
