CHARLESTON, S.C. - The University of Massachusetts softball team collected its third win of the season on Sunday at the CSU Buc Up Tournament, shutting out North Dakota, 2 to 0. The win betters UMass' record to 3-6, while North Dakota sits at 0-10.
In the second inning, Abby Packard reached on a fielding error by the right fielder and ultimately ended up at second base, allowing Olivia Guindon to advance to third and Jules Shields to plate the first run of the day.
The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Minutewomen until the fifth inning, when Chloe Whittier hit an RBI double to send Bella Pantoja home for the second and final run of the contest.
Natalee Horton recorded her first win of the season in the circle, recording five strikeouts and allowing no earned runs in 7.0 innings of work.
Massachusetts softball will take a break next weekend before returning to tournament play at the Dugout Club Classic, hosted by Florida State, from Friday, Mar. 3 to Sunday, Mar. 5. UMass will see action against Colgate, Georgia Southern, and Florida State.
