Softball Bests Bowling Green 2-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The University of Massachusetts softball team (18-27, 9-15 MAC) outlasted Bowling Green (18-26, 6-17 MAC) 2-1 in the final contest of a three game series. Heads up baserunning and another solid circle performance from Hannah Streicher let the Minutewomen to victory.
Streicher picked up her 10th win of the season in dominant fashion, allowing just three hits, tying a season low. The junior has recorded 13 straight complete game appearances dating back to March 27.
Grace Colucci stayed hot at the plate, recording the lone RBI for the Minutewomen. Brooke Musch and Odyssey Torres each had two hits for UMass. Freshman catcher Brenna Rush recorded her first collegiate hit as well.
Massachusetts broke the pitchers duel in the top of the fourth inning, as Musch singled in the infield to lead off the inning. After swiping second base, Musch advanced to third on a single from Torres. On the ensuing pitch, Torres attempted to steal second, and drew a rundown as the Falcons threw down to second base. Musch scored easily during the play and gave UMass an early 1-0 advantage.
Bowling Green responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth, playing small ball of its own. A hit by pitch and stolen base put a runner on second for the Falcons, who scored on a single on the ensuing plate appearance, knotting the game at 1-1.
In the top of the sixth frame, Torres and Lillie Scheivert hit consecutive singles to lead off the inning. Colucci singled to center field to score one and plate the go ahead run.
Streicher retired the side in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, ending the game at 2-1.
Streicher (10-13) earned the win for the Minutewomen, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Morgan Beckham picked up the loss in a relief appearance for the Falcons, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
Massachusetts returns to action for an out of conference matchup against Boston University on Tuesday, April 28 on Sortino Field.
