Massachusetts Softball Falls To UCF, 7-1

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Massachusetts softball team opened up its season on Friday evening against UCF at the UCF Softball Complex. The Minutewomen dropped the contest against the Knights, 7-1.
Jada Cody opened up scoring for UCF in the first inning thanks to a Sarah Willis walk. Sarah Keagy evened the score in the top of the second inning, recording the lone hit for the Minutewomen on the day and scoring off a wild pitch.
Shannon Doherty singled to left field with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, bringing two more runs in for the Knights. In the bottom of the fifth, Kennedy Searcy scored off a walk from Johneisha Rowe. Jasmine Williams hit a solo home run and Jada Cody logged a RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth to produce two more runs for UCF.
The Knights capped the scoring in the bottom of the sixth, as Chloe Evans came home on a ground ball.
Jessie DiPasquale threw five innings with three strikeouts and allowed six earned runs. Julianne Bolton entered the circle and recorded all three outs in the sixth.
The Minutewomen return to the diamond for two tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11, as they take on #15 Georgia at 9:30 a.m. and Boise State at 12 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex as Massachusetts continues to compete in the Black and Gold Classic.
