Softball Hosts George Washington For Senior Day Weekend

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team wraps up the regular season this weekend with three games against George Washington at Sortino Field. The Minutewomen open the series on Senior Day Saturday with a noon doubleheader while the ceremony will begin pregame at 11:45 a.m.

Senior Day
The Minutewomen will recognize their four seniors and graduate students at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday before the series opening doubleheader. UMass will recognize Kendra Allen, Kristina Day, Kali Puppolo and Amy Smith pregame.

Kendra Gets On Base
Kendra Allen leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks 42nd in the country in walks per game with 0.67 and leads the league in total walks at 31. The senior ranked sixth nationally in the category a season ago and finished as the A-10 lead in on-base percentage in 2021. Allen has also come through in the clutch with runners on this season and has recorded the third-most RBI in the A-10 this year with 31.

Pushin' P
Payge Suggs leads the Minutewomen in on-base percentage and ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in the category at .454. Suggs also ranks eighth in the conference in runs scored with 27 and has the seventh-most walks in the A-10 with 23. The sophomore has eight multi-hit games on the year to rank tied for second on.the team and is the only Minutewoman with four hits in a single game this season.

Bella Among A-10 Leaders
Bella Pantoja ranks among the top-10 in the Atlantic 10 in runs, hits, triples and at-bats this season. The sophomore has an A-10 leading 156 at-bats while ranking fifth in runs (31) and sixth in hits (49). The sophomore leads the Minutewomen in six offensive categories, including total bases (62) and doubles (6). 

Atlantic 10 Tournament On Deck
The Minutewomen will begin the Atlantic 10 Championship in Fairfax, Va. on Wednesday, May 11 with one of the two opening games of the tournament. The double elimination conference tournament rolls on the following day with the second set of games and continues into Friday and Saturday. Last Time Out
The Minutewomen won game two of their three game Atlantic 10 series over the weekend at Dayton. UMass  used a two-run fifth inning to take the lead in an eventual 2-1 win behind an Abby Lamson pinch hit RBI single to right field. Julianne Bolton got her eighth win of the season in the circle as she went the distance with three strikeouts. The Minutewomen were scheduled to play a midweek doubleheader at Stony Brook that was canceled due to weather.
