Minutewomen Drop Doubleheader To Fordham

Giana Wameling posted a pair of hits to lead a UMass team that finished with eight hits in game two.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to Fordham in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader on Saturday at Sortino Field. The Minutewomen outhit the Rams 8-5 in the second game led by a pair of hits from Giana Wameling.
Game 1 – Fordham 9, UMass 0 (5 inn.)
Fordham got out to a 4-0 advantage in game one with a Bailey Enoch grand slam in the top half of the first inning. The Rams used the long ball again in the second inning as Rachel Hubertus hit a three-run home run to left center field to make it 7-0.
The Rams added one run in the third inning and made it a 9-0 final on an Enoch home run to right field in the fourth.
Julianne Bolton threw 3.1 innings for the Minutewomen and struck out five while allowing four earned runs before Jenna Bradley came in to close out game one with 1.2 innings of work.
Devon Miller earned the win in the circle for the Rams and struck out six and walked four in 5.0 inning of action.
Game 2 – Fordham 7, UMass 2
Fordham jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two before the UMass bats heated up. UMass threatened with two runners in scoring position in the second inning and came through with runs in the third and fourth frames.
The Minutewomen plated a run with two outs in the third inning after Emily Whelan and Amy Smith put together consecutive singles that helped load the bases after a Chloe Whittier walk. Kendra Allen following with a RBI single to bring in Whelan to make it a 5-1 contest.
UMass added another run in the next trip to the plate after Grace Cadden led off the inning with a double to left field. Wameling's first hit of game two followed to put runners at the corners with one out to set up a Bella Pantoja sacrifice fly to right field that brought it Cadden to make it 5-2.
Fordham added a pair of runs in the fifth inning via an Enoch two-run home run to right center field.
Jessie DiPasquale threw all seven innings for the Minutewomen and struck out six with three walks while Fordham's Makenzie McGrath earned the win.
The Minutewomen and Rams wrap up the series tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. on Sortino Field.
