Softball Falls To Fordham In Series Finale

Bella Pantoja and Giana Wameling each finished with a pair of hits for the Minutewomen.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to Fordham 6-1 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Sortino Field. Bella Pantoja and Giana Wameling each had two hits for a UMass offense that finished the game with seven.
Pantoja led off the bottom half of the first with a single up the middle before a Payge Suggs base hit put a pair of runners on for the Minutewomen. Amy Smith moved both over on a sacrifice bunt that led to a Fordham throwing error that brought home Pantoja for the game's first run.
Jenna Bradley tossed all seven innings for the Minutewomen and retired the first five Fordham batters before a two-out single in the second. Bradley finished the day with a pair of strikeouts and six earned runs allowed.
Fordham took its first lead in the third with three runs on three hits capped off by a two-out, two-run home run from Rachel Hubertus. The Rams added two more in the fourth on an Amanda Carry two-run home run and made it a 6-1 contest with a run in the seventh.
Chloe Whittier and Emily Whelan each added a hit for the UMass offense while Smith and Abby Packard recorded a walk each on the day.
The Minutewomen wrap up their six-game homestand on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on Sortino Field against UConn.
