Softball Hosts Fordham In Atlantic 10 Action

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team hosts its first Atlantic 10 three-game series this weekend against Fordham on Saturday and Sunday at Sortino Field. The Minutewomen and Rams square off tomorrow with a noon doubleheader before wrapping up the series at noon on Sunday.
The Homestand Rolls On
The Minutewomen are in the midst of a six-game homestand at Sortino Field and wrap up the slate on Wednesday against UConn with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. UMass plays its next four games on the road to follow and then play seven of the next eight at home.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen picked up a doubleheader sweep of Maine on Wednesday at Sortino Field. Grace Cadden drove in a pair of runs on two hits in a 7-4 game one win while Emily Whelan added a pair of RBI. Julianne Bolton tossed six innings of one-hit softball in a 4-2 game two win with Jenna Bradley closing out the game with her first save of the season. Kendra Allen paced the UMass offense with a pair of RBI on two hits while Chloe Whittier and Giana Wameling each brought home a run.
Day Of Firsts
Multiple Minutewomen picked up their first collegiate hit or RBI in Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of Maine. Taylor Richardson recorded her first collegiate hit with a single in the second inning of game one. Olivia Guindon and Giana Wameling earned their first starts in game two, with Guindon picking up her first hit with a double in the second while Wameling drove in her first run with a RBI the following at-bat.
UMass Leaders
Bella Pantoja leads the Minutewomen in hits (30), runs (19) and total bases (39) to go along with a .323 average while Payge Suggs owns the highest average on the squad at .339. Chloe Whittier adds a .305 clip at the plate with a team-leading 19 RBI. Jessie DiPasquale leads the UMass pitching staff in both innings pitched (78.2) and strikeouts (61) while Julianne Bolton has a team-best five wins in the circle in 52.0 innings of work.
