AMHERST, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts softball team heads to Boston tomorrow to take on Boston University at 3 p.m. at the BU Softball Field in non-conference action.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen went 2-1 over the weekend in Atlantic 10 action at George Mason. UMass swept Sunday's doubleheader to win the series behind a 5-1 win in game one before a 4-2 victory in game two. Amy Smith and Kendra Allen each finished with multi-hit performances in game one and added RBI along with Chloe Whittier and Sarah Keagy. Jessie DiPasquale recorded her fifth win in the circle, going all seven innings with four strikeouts and just four hits allowed. In the game two win, Grace Cadden opened the scoring with her first collegiate home run before a pair of sacrifice flies by Smith and Emily Whelan made it a 4-2 finale. Julianne Bolton struck out nine in the win with just two walks.
Bella's Ballin'
Bella Pantoja leads the Minutewomen in seven offensive categories, including batting average (.319), runs (24), hits (36) and stolen bases (9). The sophomore is one of three Minutewomen to have started every game this season and has hit in the leadoff spot in all 34 contests. Pantoja is hitting .456 to leadoff any inning and hitting .329 with the bases empty.
Amy Gets On Base
Amy Smith posted a .636 on-base percentage over three games last week to go along with a .400 batting average. Smith earned five walks in three games to give her 20 on the year to rank second-most on the squad and third in the Atlantic 10 in walks per game. The graduate student also holds the longest active reached base streak on the team at nine games.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen return home to Sortino Field to open a three-game series against St. Bonaventure on Friday at 2 p.m. and wrap up the series on Saturday at noon. UMass is at home for six of its next seven games and breaks from league action to host UMass Lowell on Wednesday, April 20 before welcoming Saint Joseph's to town the following weekend for an A-10 series.
