Softball Drops Game Three At George Mason, 2-1

The Minutewomen fell in game three but won the series behind a Sunday doubleheader sweep.
FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Massachusetts softball team dropped game three at George Mason 2-1 on Monday at the George Mason Softball Complex. The Minutewomen secured their second league series win of the season by winning both games of the doubleheader yesterday.

George Mason struck first in the third inning after a leadoff single led to a one-out run to make it a 1-0 contest. The Patriots extended their advantage to a two-run lead in their next trip to the plate on a two-out RBI single up the middle by Hayley Shifflett.

The Minutewomen cut their deficit to a run in the sixth inning after Bella Pantoja reached on an error to open the inning. Emily Whelan followed with a base hit down the right field line to put runners at the corners before Chloe Whittier brought in Pantoja on a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 2-1.

Kristina Day and Giana Wameling each added hits for UMass on the day.

Jenna Bradley tossed all six innings for the Minutewomen defensively and surrendered one earned run with four strikeouts.

The Minutewomen return to action on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. game at Boston University.
