Okuyama transfers to the Minutewomen program from William & Mary
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis and head coach Juancarlos Nunez announced the signing of Vitoria Okuyama on Monday afternoon. Okuyama joins the Minutewomen from William & Mary, where she was a two-time CAA First-Team doubles selection.
Â
The Arapongas, Brazil native also earned CAA First-Team singles honors this past fall and played a big role in helping William & Mary get to the finals of the CAA Championships. Okuyama holds a career-high ITF junior ranking of 118.
Â
"We are very happy to welcome Vitoria into our program for this coming season," said Nunez. "She has had an outstanding career on and off the court at William & Mary. She has proven herself to be an impactful player on the singles and doubles courts. She brings a wealth of experience as someone who has been through a lot of battles on the tennis court during her college career. That experience is invaluable, and I know she is very excited to get here and help our program achieve our goals for this coming season."
Â
The CAA Honor Roll and ITA Scholar-Athlete selection played No. 1 doubles and split time at No. 3 and No. 4 singles last season and went a perfect 6-0 at the 2021 CAA Championships to help William & Mary reach the championship for third time during her career in Williamsburg, Va. Okuyama helped her team claim the CAA Championship in 2019 with doubles wins in both the semifinal and championship matches.
