Softball Hosts Syracuse In Friday Doubleheader

The Minutewomen added a doubleheader against the Orange after a postponement in their scheduled URI series.

Last Week
The Minutewomen won a pair of road games at Bryant before falling to Fordham in the weekend series on Friday and Saturday. In their wins over Bryant, UMass outscored the Bulldogs 25-8 in 11 innings of action. Caroline Deem led UMass in game one with hits and four RBI, including a three-run home run for her first collegiate long ball. In game two, three Minutewomen finished with multiple-RBI games led by Jules Shields' three while Bella Pantoja and Amy Smith each drove in two.
Sophomore Sluggers
UMass is led offensively through eight games by Deem and Shields' .333 batting average on the season. Deem has drove in a team-high five runs on the season while Shields leads the Minutewomen with a .556 slugging percentage to go along with a double and a home run.
The Opponent
The Orange come into Friday's doubleheader with a 10-9 overall record having won four straight games after sweeping a four-game series at Pittsburgh last weekend. Syracuse is led offensively by Neli Casares-Maher's .356 average and a team-leading nine RBI. In the circle for the Orange, Alexa Romero and Lindsey Hendrix own 2.13 and 2.86 ERAs, respectively.

Please note that all fan attendance for Friday's doubleheader is restricted to a limited number of team roster guests. Only student-athletes can request tickets, and only individuals listed on player-guest lists will be permitted into the facility. In addition, UMass students and faculty/staff will be allowed into the facilities on a first come, first served basis. Students and faculty/staff will be asked to show their green checkmark upon arrival in compliance with campus COVID testing protocols. Fans of visiting teams will not be admitted into the facilities at this time, in alignment with counterparts at institutions within the conference. Looking Ahead
The series originally scheduled for this weekend against Rhode Island was postponed to next week due to COVID-19 protocol within the Rams' program. The series has been shortened to a doubleheader at Sortino Field on Tuesday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
