HIGHLIGHTS
  • Noah Rak won 18-of-24 faceoffs, grabbed 10 groundballs and scored once. It marked career highs in faceoffs won and taken and groundballs picked up for the junior.
  • Isaac Paparo had four caused turnovers and three groundballs at close defense, including a caused turnover and groundball series in the final two minutes that set the Minutemen up for their last scoring possession.
  • Tyler Bogart earned his third consecutive hat trick with three goals and an assist.
  • Buddy Carr and Dan Muller added three-point days as each had a pair of goals and assisted on another score.
  • The Minutemen used a five-goal run bridging the third and fourth quarters to turn an 8-6 deficit into an 11-8 lead. Bogart, Carr, Consoletti, Noah Rak and Shane Rinkus each scored once in the streak.

FIRST QUARTER
Massachusetts scored 56 seconds into the frame on Dan Muller's 10th goal of the year. Paul Spinney found Muller open on the left side for Spinney's first point of the year.

Hartford notched four of the next five goals for a 4-2 advantage after one quarter. Justin Huggins had two of the Hawks' four conversions. Tyler Bogart created the lone UMass score in the series when he juked his defender behind the cage, rolled around the left post and fired in his team-leading 13th tally of the season.

SECOND QUARTER
Back-to-back conversions from Buddy Carr and Grant Consoletti helped Massachusetts move back within one of tying, 5-4, after Griffin Feiner opened scoring in the frame for the Hawks.

Carr notched his tally with 13:39 to play in the quarter while Consoletti followed only 41 seconds later. Alec Brown bumped the Hawks' lead back to a pair with the lone additional goal in the quarter, scored with 5:14 to go.

THIRD QUARTER
After the officials awarded Hartford their fourth extra-man opportunity of the game as time expired in the second quarter, the Hawks converted their fourth man-up tally for a 7-4 lead.

Massachusetts responded with five of the final six scores of the frame to pull in front, 9-8. The Minutemen spread the scoring around to four shooters as Bogart connected twice and Carr, Consoletti and Muller added one and helped the squad get back in front for the first time since the 1-0.

FOURTH QUARTER
Unorthodox goal scorers provided Massachusetts with another back-to-back scoring series as long-stick midfielder Shane Rinkus and faceoff specialist Noah Rak tallied in succession.

Rinkus caused a turnover on a lost faceoff, grabbed the groundball and fired low for his second tally of the year. On the next faceoff, Noah Rak won the duel, scooped up the loose ball and deposited it into the back of the net for the 11-8 lead only 17 seconds into the final stanza.

Hartford's defense silenced the UMass offense into the final minute of the game as the Hawks chipped away at their three-goal deficit with scores by Brown and Trevor O'Brien.

Isaac Paparo sealed the outcome in the final two minutes after he forced a Hartford turnover with a pass interception, cleared up-field to the offense and handed possession over the attack. Dylan Gruder capitalized on the possession with his first goal of the season with 15 seconds to go.
