April 11, 2026 | Men's Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse had the opportunity to force overtime on the final possession, but Delaware managed to edge UMass, 8-7 on Saturday afternoon on Garber Field. The setback leaves the Gorillas at 9-4 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic 10, while the Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Junior Charles Kurtz and sophomore Will Morse both had two goals for Massachusetts and senior Aiden Drunsic contributed a goal and an assist. Senior Zach Auble had a pair of assists and two caused turnovers, while sophomore Ryan Mourad, junior Jimmy Elliott and freshman Nick Cunningham had two caused turnovers apiece. Elliott logged four ground balls, while Morse, Auble and Mourad corralled three each.

For Delaware, John McCurry paced the offense with three points (2g, 1a). Jack Kolbe and Keegan Lathrop both scored twice and Brendan Powers added a goal and an assist.

Drunsic scored the lone goal of the opening quarter in transition as Cunningham led him on the run for the tally at the 9:53 mark. The Blue Hens tied the score early in the second before Kurtz responded with his first of the day with 9:17 remaining in the opening half. Delaware had the next two scores at 3:16 and 1:37 before Morse beat the buzzer with a pole to pole behind the back goal from Auble to tie the score at three at the break.

The Blue Hens netted the first two of the third quarter, only to be answered by goals from sophomore Dylan Johnson and Morse. However, Delaware ended the frame with a three-goal run to take an 8-5 advantage into the fourth.

Auble set up freshman Thomas Bagnall down low in front with 11:39 to play in the final stanza, brining UMass back within a pair. Kurtz then drove to the cage for the finish at 6:52 to close the gap to 8-7.

An unforced turnover by Delaware gave the Gorillas the final possession of the contest but sophomore Jack Turowsky's attempt at the equalizer was denied with one second to play.

UMass ended the contest with a 39-37 edge in shots and went 0-for-2 in extra man opportunities, while the Blue Hens were 1-for-3.

Goalkeeper Colton Silverstein had 17 stops for Delaware and sophomore Owen Salanger totaled 13 saves for UMass.

The Gorillas will close out the A-10 regular season slate next Saturday, April 18, at Hobart at 12 p.m.
