Hannah McColgan joined the Minutewomen staff in July 2023, following a year as a member of the women's tennis team at the University of Maryland as a graduate student.
During the 2024-25 season, McColgan aided the team to a 12-7 season overall, including an unblemished 4-0 A-10 Conference mark in the 2024-25 season. The Minutewomen earned the No. 2-seed heading into the A-10 Championships for the ninth time in program history. UMass reached the semifinals of the league championships for the 13th time in program history and second time with McColgan on staff.
Four Minutewomen earned A-10 Postseason honors for their performances during the 2024-25 campaign. Mariana Campino collected A-10 All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team honors, while Ella Faessler, Belle Jongelrtrakul and Amelia Tye all landed on the A-10 All-Conference Second Team. Campino, Faessler and Jonglertrakul also earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Team. The team earned a top-10 ITA New England Regional, ranking No. 10, for the second straight year, while Campino ranked No. 18 in the final ITA New England Regional Singles Rankings.Â
In her first season at Massachusetts, McColgan helped lead the team to a 15-8 season overall, including a 4-1 mark in A-10 Conference play during the 2023-24 season. The campaign marked the third time in program history that Massachusetts claimed the league's championship title and reached the NCAA Tournament. Massachusetts completed its home schedule with a 7-1 record and went on a four-match win streak to finish out the regular season. The Minutewomen continued their win streak in the postseason with three consecutive victories in the A-10 Tournament, before falling to No. 2 Stanford in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
McColgan earned the ITA New Engand Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor, becoming the third assistant coach to garner the honor and first since 2013, when Nunez tabbed the award, while Celeste Frey held the honor in 2006, while head coach Juancarlos Nunez tabbed the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year accolade for the first time in his career, and only the second coach in history behind Dixon – who received the award six times in her tenure, and  the Wilson/ITA New England Region Coach of the Year.
The 2023-24 season saw Danielle Hack earn the Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer of the Year, while garnering the ITA New England Region Senior Player of the Year. Thamonpan Jongelrtrakul tabbed the ITA New England Region Most Improved Player and ITA New England Region Player to Watch awards, as well. Hack and Jonglertrakul landed on the A-10 All-Conference First Team, while Ella Faessler earned a spot on the A-10 All-Conference Second Team. Hack was also selected to the A-10 All-Academic Team.Â
At the conclusion of the season, the Minutewomen ranked sixth in the final ITA New England Regional Rankings for the first time ever in program history, while Hack ranked seventh in the ITA New England Regional Singles Rankings and partners Hack and Jonglertrakul earned the No. 5 ranking in the ITA New England Regional Doubles Rankings. Hack's singles ranking was the highest of any Minutewomen in program history, as Hack and Jonglertrakul received a persona best ranking, after being previously ranked 10th in the 2021-22 final ITA Regional Doubles Rankings. The duo also became the second duo in program history to be ranked twice in their careers.Â
At Maryland, McColgan finished her season with a 17-12 doubles record and a 10-17 singles record. With partner Jojo Bach, the duo posted a 13-5 record during the spring, while going 15-6 overall and 4-3 against Big Ten opponents. She helped the Terrapins to its highest team ranking in program history at No. 33, to 17 team wins, which tied for the second most in program history, and to the earning of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for women's tennis.
Prior to her time at Maryland, McColgan began her collegiate tennis career at Northwestern University, where she spent four seasons with the Wildcats. During her debut season, McColgan amassed a 15-7 doubles record with her partner, as the duo went on a seven-match win streak in February and March. She boasted a 3-1 record against nationally ranked opponents and went 3-1 in singles competition on the season. In the fall, McColgan advanced to the Round of 16 of the ITA Midwest Regional and won all three double matches with her partner at the LSU Fall Tiger Classic.
McColgan had a 9-7 doubles mark in a shortened 2019-20 sophomore season. As a junior in 2021, she competed primarily in doubles action, going 12-6 overall, while adding a 4-3 singles record. McColgan began the season ranked at No. 47 with her partner Julie Byrne and the duo knocked off No. 2 Anna Rogers and Alana Smith of No. 8 North Carolina State, 7-6, for season-opening upset over the Wolfpack. She won her doubles match in the Big Ten Tournament and won a pair of doubles matches in the NCAA Tournament alongside partner Caroline Pozo, including a victory over their opponents of No. 10 Texas A&M. McColgan and Pozo completed the year with a 8-1 record as a duo.
During her senior season, she went 25-11 in doubles play, including a 7-1 standing in Big Ten action, and went 10-3 overall in singles competition. McColgan played a key role in the Wildcats' run to the NCAA Tournament in the 2021-22 season with her partner, Sydney Pratt, at No. 3 doubles. In the fall, she qualified for the ITA Fall Championships with Pratt after the duo reached the doubles final of the ITA Midwest Super Regionals.Â
McColgan reached her highest ITA doubles ranking of No. 27 at Northwestern and aided the Wildcats to its highest ITA team ranking of No. 4.
Before college, McColgan, a native of Stockport, Great Britain, represented Great Britain in the U16 Winter Cup in the Netherlands and the U18 Summer Cup. She became a U18 British national doubles champion, and won two ITF Junior singles titles and one doubles crown. McColgan was also the recipient of the Dick Fontes Trophy for all-around contribution to Cheshire Tennis. In 2014, she advanced to the HSBC Road to Wimbledon 14 & Under Challenge at the All England Cup.
McColgan graduated with her bachelor's degree in Learning and Organizational Change, with a minor in Business Institutions from Northwestern in 2022. At Northwestern, she was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and collected the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. She earned her master's degree in Management in May 2023 from Maryland.
