Softball Splits Day Two at UNCW Tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Massachusetts (5-9) split two games against Rider (1-3) and UNC Wilmington (11-2) in Day Two of the UNCW Tournament on Saturday.
The Minutewomen were able to avenge their loss to Rider yesterday, claiming a 2-0 victory in the first game of the day. Riley Kairer got the bats going in the second inning with a triple, scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning. UMass doubled its advantage after Riain Keefe singled in the third, followed by Sophia Thormeyer's double to bring her across home plate. Julianne Bolton took care of business for her third win of the season, pitching a complete game while striking out five batters for the shutout.
Massachusetts fought to the end against the Seahawks in the second game of the day, falling just short 4-2. Sarah Keagy hit a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit in half, however UMass was unable to generate any additional offense. Natalee Horton pitched all six innnings for the Minutewomen, letting in only one earned run and striking out three batters.
