Softball Drops Final Game of UNCW Tournament to DePaul, 4-2

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Massachusetts (5-10) was unable to overcome DePaul (7-6) in its final game of the UNCW Tournament, surrendering a 4-2 decision on Sunday morning.
Lily Woodworth led the offense with two hits on the day, going 2-4. Riley Kairer and Odyssey Torres each tallied RBI singles, with Ella Stevinson and Brooke Musch crossing the plate.
The Blue Demons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. UMass answered after Ella Stevinson, Riley Kairer, and Odyssey Torres each singled in the top of the fourth to bring home two runs and even the score. DePaul then scored in the fourth and sixth innings to take back a two-run lead heading into the seventh. All three Minutewomen hitters were able to put the ball in play in the final frame, however solid defending by the Blue Demons closed the door on a comeback. Hannah Streicher pitched all six innings for Massachusetts, striking out three batters.
