AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts softball (4-6) travels to Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the UNCW Tournament this weekend. The Minutewomen are set to face, UNC Wilmington (7-2), DePaul (4-4), and Rider (0-0).
Last Time Out
UMass is coming off a 1-4 weekend at the Bevo Classic against #1 Texas, #8 Texas Tech, and Maryland. The Minutewomen ended the weekend on a high note, claiming a statment win over Maryland in a 10-1 decision. Riley Kairer led the offense in the Massachusetts win, tallying a triple and a double for four RBIs on the day. Odyssey Torres and Ella Stevinson also batted in multiple runs, each finishing the game with two RBIs. Lydia Castro and Riain Keefe rounded out the scoring for UMass with one RBI respectively. Lily Woodworth, Sophia Thormeyer, and Katharine Heslin each tallied base hits. Julianne Bolton pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless softball before the Terps got on the board with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bolton struck out four batters throughout the contest to complete the five-inning victory.

UNC Wilmington (7-2)
UNCW is coming off a 4-0 weekend at the Charleston Southern Tournament, besting CCSU and Charleston Southern in two games each. The Seahawks have posted a 7-2 record on the early season, out-scoring opponents 53-20. UNCW's only two losses on the year came at the hands of Syracuse. The Seahawks bats post a .332 batting average, including six homeruns and 47 RBIs. Their pitching staff holds a 1.87 ERA, holding opponents to a .230 batting average and 41 strikeouts.
DePaul (4-4)
DePaul split its two games at the UT Martin Tournament before the remainder of competition was canceled due to weather. The Blue Demons' offense bats .290 on the season, batting in 28 runs. DePaul's pitching staff has struck out 37 batters across eight games thus far, with opponents batting .252.
Rider (0-0)
The Broncs are set to play their first games of 2025 this weekend after posting a 23-28 record in the previous season. Rider went 15-8 in conference last year, falling to No. 6 Siena and No. 5 Iona in the MAAC Championships. The Broncs batted .271 in 2024, hitting 17 homeruns and batting in 152 runs. Opponents batted .260 against Rider, with the pitching staff striking out 227 hitters.
