Softball Falls to UNC Wilmington and Rider in Day One of UNCW Tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Massachusetts (4-8) was unable to overcome Rider (1-1) and UNC Wilmington (8-2) on Friday, dropping two contests in the first day of the UNCW Tournament.
The Minutewomen were bested by Rider in the first game of the day, falling short in a 7-0 decision. Lilly Woodworth, Odyssey Torres, and Riley Kairer each tallied hits for UMass. Hannah Streicher struck out four batters in four innings of relief.
UMass was unable to bounce back in the following game, dropping a 5-0 decision to the hosting UNC Wilmington Seahawks. Riain Keefe, Sarah Keagy, and Riley Kairer each recorded base hits Julianne Bolton pitched five innings for Massachusetts, surrendering two earned runs while striking out three batters. Olivia Cutuli struck out one batter in one inning of relief.
