AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts softball (3-2) travels to Austin, Texas to compete in the Bevo Classic this weekend. The Minutewomen are set to face top-tier competition, including #1 Texas (6-0), #11 Texas Tech (5-1), and Maryland (3-2).

Last Time Out

UMass is coming off a 3-2 weekend at the Campbell Camel Stampede. Massachusetts won its first three games of the season, starting with a 10-2 victory in six innings over ETSU, followed by a 5-2 win over Campbell last Friday. The Minutewomen shutout ETSU in their second matchup, 2-0. The final two games of the weekend would come down to the final inning, with Massachusetts falling just short 3-4 against Campbell and 9-10 against Kent State.

Scouting The Field

#1 Texas (6-0)
The Longhorns sit at the top of the NCAA, winning six straight to open play in 2025. Texas shutout its opponents in the first three games, winning by a composite score of 21-0 against Longwood, Louisiana, and St. John's. The top-ranked team in the country also posted wins against Lamar (13-7), Tulsa (4-2), and Sam Houston (8-3). The Longhorns pitching staff is holding opponents to a .136 batting average, striking out 41 batters thus far. Their offense currently bats .362, scoring 46 runs.

#11 Texas Tech (5-1)
Texas Tech is coming off a 5-1 week at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, beating the likes of #16 Nebraska, Marshall, Penn State, Iowa, and Kenesaw State. The Red Raiders' only loss came at the hands of #25 Mississippi State, losing 1-3 in eight innings. The Texas Tech pitching staff currently holds its oppenents to a .207 batting average, tallying 50 strikeouts on the young 2025 campagin. Batting .252 as a team, the Red Raiders have scored 33 runs so far this year.

Maryland (3-2)
Maryland began the season 3-2 at the Kajikawa Classic, splitting a series with #21 Cal in addition to wins against Miami (OH) and Utah. The Terps' also faced Arizona State last weekend, falling 7-1 in the tournament opener. Maryland's offense bats .254 as a unit, scoring 23 runs to open the year. Their pitching staff has tallied 15 strikeouts, with opponents batting .295.
