Minutewomen Drop Two In Saturday Doubleheader Action

AMHERST, MASS. -- Massachusetts (10-22, 6-4 A-10) dropped two games to Atlantic 10 foe Dayton (17-13, 7-3) in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field.

Massachusetts fell 4-3 in a eight innings, coming up short in a pitchers dual to start the weekend. Sophomore Natalee Horton earned her 11th start of the season, pitching all eight innings while recording five strikeouts. Junior Lydia Castro led the Minutewomen at the plate, recording two hits including a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. Overall, the top of the Massachusetts order came through when called upon, as Chloe Whittier, Bella Pantoja and Castro each tallied an RBI in the contest.

The Minutewomen once again dropped a 4-3 decision to the Flyers in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Junior Julianne Bolton got the nod in the circle, pitching 5.1 inning while striking out five batters. Sarah Keagy was a standout at the plate in game two, notching two hits including a well struck RBI double into the right center gap. Senior Jordyn Graime recorded her first extra-base hit of the season, smashing a two RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth inning. The triple from Graime tied the game at three runs apiece but Dayton was able respond with two runs in the top of the fifth, jumping out to a lead they would not relinquish.
