AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts continues Atlantic 10 play hosting Dayton for a three-game series from April 6-7 at Sortino Field. Links and live updates can be found at umassathletics.com and @umasssoftball on X (Twitter).Â
Last Time Out:
The Minutewomen come into the week after sweeping three-games at St. Bonaventure, claiming back-to-back Atlantic 10 series victories. Senior Sarah Keagy continued her recent hot streak at the plate smashing a home run in back-to-back games over the weekend, totaling six RBIs in the three wins. Junior Julianne Bolton earned the start in the circle for back-to-back 5-inning run rule victories over St. Bonaventure. The Clarence Center, New York native pitched consecutive complete games, including a one-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory on Friday, March 29. Bolton combined for 16 strikeouts across the 10 innings on the bump, allowing just four hits and one earned run.
2023 Rewind:
Massachusetts comes into 2024 after earning a 16-34 record a season ago. The Minutewomen return 13 players from the 2023 campaign including eight who played in over 30 games. At the plate, Massachusetts brings back Chloe Whitter who led the team in batting average (.315) and senior Bella Pantoja who paced the Minutemen in home runs (3) and runs batted in (24). On the rubber, Julianne Bolton comes back to Sortino Field after leading the pitching staff in innings pitched (112.0) and appearances (27.0).
Scouting The Flyers:
Dayton: The Flyers completed an Atlantic 10 series sweep of Loyola Chicago with two wins at UD Softball Stadium. Maddie Kapsimalis has been a standout performer at the plate, leading the team in batting average (.368), hits (32), home runs (5) and runs batted in (31). Pitcher Izzy Kemp comes into the weekend as the Flyers leader in the circle, holding a 2.27 ERA while recording 78 strikeouts.
