AMHERST, Mass. - UMass welcomes regional rival Uconn to Sortino on Wednesday, April 15, before traveling to face Loyola Chicago for a three-game series from April 19-20. Links and live updates can be found at umassathletics.com and @umasssoftball on X (Twitter).

Last Time Out:
The Minutewomen come into the week after a tight three-game with Atlantic 10 foe George Mason. Massachusetts went 1-2 across the two days of play, claiming the series finale with a 2-1 wire-to-wire victory 

Senior Sarah Keagy led the Minutewomen offensively over the weekend, batting .400 with two home runs and four runs batted in. Keagy not only impacted the game with her power but showed incredible discipline at the plate working four walks and a hit-by-pitch over the weekend series.

Freshman Hannah Streicher had a breakout game, earning her first career win on Sunday, April 14. The Sparta, New Jersey native pitched a 7.0 inning complete game, striking out five batters without allowing an earned run. Streicher was key to the series capping victory for the Minutewomen, holding George Mason without an extra-base hit over 111 pitches on the day. 

2023 Rewind:
Massachusetts comes into 2024 after earning a 16-34 record a season ago. The Minutewomen return 13 players from the 2023 campaign including eight who played in over 30 games. At the plate, Massachusetts brings back Chloe Whitter who led the team in batting average (.315) and senior Bella Pantoja who paced the Minutemen in home runs (3) and runs batted in (24). On the rubber, Julianne Bolton comes back to Sortino Field after leading the pitching staff in innings pitched (112.0) and appearances (27.0).

Scouting The Field:

UConn:  The Huskies come into the midweek matchup with a 22-19 record including a series win over Creighton this past weekend. Outfielder Lexi Hastings leads UConn at the plate batting .395 with 51 hits and 20 RBIs. Pitcher Megan O'Neill sets the tone for the Huskies in the circle leading the team in ERA (2.11), appearances (31) and saves (4).

Loyola Chicago: The Ramblers enter the weekend with an 8-7 record in Atlantic 10 play, coming off a three-game sweep of St. Bonaventure last weekend. Loyola Chicago is powered by Senior Sydney Barnett who leads the squad in batting average (.346), home runs (9) and RBI (36). The reigning A-10 Pitcher of The Week Peyton Pepkowski leads the Ramblers in the circle, holding a 2.75 ERA while totaling an impressive 142 strikeouts.
