Minutewomen Fall In Doubleheader Action Against George Mason

AMHERST, MASS. -- Massachusetts (11-25, 7-6 A-10) dropped two games in doubleheader action with Atlantic 10 foe George Mason (13-26, 4-9) on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field. 
 
Massachusetts fell 7-5 in a competitive back-and-forth game to start the day. Sophomore Natalee Horton earned her 13th start of the season, pitching 6.0 innings in the circle. In what was a pitchers dual for much of the early action, the Minutwomen mounted a solid comeback bid scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead into the final frame. The Patriots responded however, scoring three runs in the seventh to secure the win. Senior Sarah Keagy led the Minutewomen at the plate, going 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a two-run opposite field home run. Centerfielder Chloe Whitter continued to be efficient in game one, going 2-for-3 at the dish with a double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Despite jumping out to a 6-4 lead through the first 2.0 innings, the Minutewomen fell 12-6 in game two on the day. Junior Julianne Bolton received her 17th starting nod of the season, striking out four batters before giving way to Jenna Bradley in relief after 4.0 innings in the circle. Keagy once again provided a spark at the plate, blasting another two-run home run in game two. Junior Grace Cadden recorded a team-high two hits, including a hard hit RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Overall, the Minutewomen recorded 9 hits on the day, marking the 10th time Massachusetts has recorded eight or more hits in a single-game this season.
