Lamson Has Three RBI Afternoon To Lift Massachusetts Softball Over Loyola, 7-4

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team soundly defeated the Loyola Ramblers on Saturday afternoon by a score of 7 to 4 to wrap up the three-game series on a high note. The Minutewomen improve to 11-21 on the season (3-8 A-10) while the Ramblers sit at 14-18 on the season (8-4 A-10).
UMass opened the contest with a two-run first, led by Abby Lamson's RBI single to plate Giana Wameling before Sarah Keagy walked Chloe Whittier. Lamson launched an RBI single to the right side to score Emily Whelan and add another tally in the second.
The fourth inning was a busy one, with three runs scored apiece for the Minutewomen and Ramblers. Loyola notched two RBI doubles and an RBI single to get on the board, while Lamson hit yet another RBI single to score Bella Pantoja and Abby Packard hit a 2 RBI double to score Lamson and Jules Shields.
At the top of the fifth, the Ramblers hit a sacrifice fly to score one more, but ultimately could not catch up to UMass. The final run of the game belongs to Pantoja, who was plated by Shields' RBI double.
In the circle, Julianne Bolton collected her third win of the season with 7.0 innings of work. The sophomore allowed nine hits and recorded five strikeouts in the victory.
Looking ahead, UMass softball will host the Marist Red Foxes on Wednesday, April 12 for a double header before Saint Bonaventure comes to town for another three-game conference series on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16.
