Massachusetts Softball Drops Series Finale At Fordham, 10-2

BRONX, N.Y. – Unable to overcome an early 7-0 deficit, University of Massachusetts softball dropped a 10-2 decision to Fordham in the final game of the weekend series at Bahoshy Field on Sunday. The Rams improve to 17-24 overall and 8-9 in Atlantic 10 play following the contest, while the Minutewomen fall to 14-27 and 5-12 conference action.
Bailey Enoch put Fordham on the board in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly to plate Michaela Carter, who reached base with a leadoff walk.
The Rams broke the game open with six runs on six hits in the second. Amanda Carey belted a two-run homer after Eva Koratsis began the inning with a single to center. With the bases loaded and two away, Sydney Wells hit a grand slam to expand Fordham's lead to 7-0.
UMass took two of the runs back in the top of the fifth. Giana Wameling led off the inning with an infield singled and Chloe Whittier doubled to right center before both came home on an error. Bella Pantoja picked up an RBI on the play.
Kate McGuire scored on a passed ball for Fordham's eighth run in the bottom of the sixth. Enoch then ended the contest with a two-out two-run single.
Julianne Bolton started in the circle and took the loss for Massachusetts, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits with one walk in one inning of work. Devon Miller threw all six innings for Fordham and let up two runs, one earned, on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts to record the win.
The Minutewomen will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26, when the squad will host Rhode Island for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Sortino Field.
