Massachusetts Softball Victorious In St. Bonaventure Doubleheader

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team picked up a pair of wins against Atlantic 10 conference competitor St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen won game one, 6-3, and run-ruled the Bonnies in six innings in game two, 11-3.
GAME ONE - UMass 6, St. Bonaventure 3
After a quiet first three innings, Abby Lamson logged an RBI single to send Bella Pantoja home at the bottom of the fourth. At the top of the fifth, the Bonnies logged three runs to establish theri first lead of the game. Chloe Whittier scored Payge Suggs in the bottom of the fifth for the lone UMass tally of the inning.
In the sixth, Sarah Keagy hit an RBI single to score Jordyn Graime, Olivia Packard sent Keagy and Abby Packard home on a 2 RBI single, and Emily Whelan scored O. Packard on an RBI single to secure the game one victory.
Jessie DiPasquale started the game in the circle, recording two strikeouts and allowing three earned runs in 5.0 innings of work before being relieved by Jenna Bradley, who threw two strikeouts and allowed a hit in the remaining 2.0 innings of work to earn the win.
GAME TWO - UMass 11, St. Bonaventure 3 (6 inn.)
Pantoja struck first, scoring Giana Wameling on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. St. Bonaventure tied things up in the second before ultimately taking a three-run lead in the third. A scoreless fourth then led to a strong Minutewomen offense in the fifth, led by Lamson's 2 RBI single to plate Pantoja and Whittier. A. Packard then recorded a 2 RBI triple, getting Lamson and Jules Shields home safely before Keagy logged her own triple to allow A. Packard to make it home.
At the bottom of the sixth, Whittier hit a sacrifice fly to allow Emily Whelan to plate a run. Shields then hit a 2 RBI single to score Pantoja and Wameling. The final RBI of the game belongs to A. Packard, whose RBI double allowed Shields to score.
Natalee Horton picked up the complete game win in the circle, throwing three strikeouts and allowing 10 hits in 6.0 innings of work.
The Minutewomen wrap up their series against St. Bonaventure tomorrow, Sunday, April 16, with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. at Sortino Field.
