AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team is off to Boston on Wednesday for an evening matchup against the Boston College Eagles.
Last Time Out
Massachusetts went 1-2 on the weekend against the Dayton Flyers, ending the three-game series with a 1-0 shutout. Freshman Natalee Horton collected the win in the circle for UMass, throwing 12 strikeouts and only allowing 3 hits in all 7.0 innings of work. Emily Whelan got the Minutewomen on the board at the top of the second, allowing Bella Pantoja to reach home.
Chloe Whittier led UMass at the plate, going 3-for-7 in the series including a home run and a double. Abby Packard had three RBIs on the weekend to lead the Minutewomen in the statistic. Horton posted a 0.66 ERA on the weekend, throwing 10.2 innings and 13 strikeouts.
Scouting The Eagles
Boston College currently sits at 16-13 on the season. The Eagles are coming off a 1-2 weekend against the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, in which they won their first contest, 3-1, before dropping the following two by scores of 0-5 and 3-8, respectively. Hannah Slike leads the Eagles at the plate, posting a .316 average and scoring 20 runs so far. Abigail Knight leads the squad in RBIs with 20, followed by Slike (15) and Nicole Giery (10). In the circle, Abby Dunning has recorded a 2.11 ERA in 66.1 innings pitched, while Susannah Anderson has a 3.21 ERA in 80.2 innings pitched. Dunning has tallied 73 strikeouts on the season while Anderson has struck 62 batters out so far.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen will open up home play at Sortino Field on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 when UMass hosts three against Saint Louis. Then, the Minutewomen will head to UConn for one on Wednesday, April 5 before returning home for a three-game series against Loyola Chicago on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
